Die Cast Model Cars any Scale, all types of Vehicles

It's a bit of a rabbit hole to go down Trevor, but here's the highlights I've learned through the years.

Hot Wheels (mainlines) and Matchbox are the most common, retailing around $2 with taxes in.

The genius of Hot Wheels is the low price and the number of re-colours and re-issues.....there's 250 HW released in a year, but with the re-colors and such, you're probably looking at closer to 400.

For example : re-color and re-issue on the Escort and the GT40.

The completist collectors will prefer to have both, so instead of buying three HW for $6, you buy 5 for $10, and essentially buy two of the same thing. If you're a Simpson's fan, you'll get the reference that it's like Malibu Stacy's new hat. :sneaky: Like I said, it's a genius marketing move when you can get people to buy the same thing they already have in a different colour...but thats what the collector market relies on. I plead guilty.

HW Premiums run $10 with taxes in each, but you get better detail and lower production.

Greenlights are a step up, but comparable with HW Premiums, and about the same price.

You get into the bigger scales, 1/24 and 1/18, prices vary and you truly get what you pay for as far as detail, and whatever you're looking for.

I prefer not to total up how many I bought over the year, , it's easy to get out of control with the number of offerings out there.

But, on the flip side, I don't drink or smoke anymore , so I figure the money I'm saving on booze and cigarettes probably breaks even. lol

I'm dialling things back a bit in 2023 though, I'll be focusing on the Vintage Ad Car series only, and maybe any GT350's and Gen 1 Raptors issued in a new colour. :ROFLMAO:

I am ADHD if you haven't already firgure this out
So one of the side effects is an addictive personality :)
Knowing this slows me down a little ( not enough)

But it tells me collecting is a bad idea, because I would have them all and quickly LOL
So curiosity gets me, because they are cool, logic says stay away
run forest run :)

I wouldn’t call myself a collector.
I would describe myself as a decorator.
I only buy cars that I think look good and complement the wall decorations in my garage.

I’m also very discriminatory in what I buy.
I don’t buy anything that is not FoMoCo.
I don’t have 1 GM or Dodge product and sworn to never do.
Big line drawn in the sand. ?

So that means I’ll never complete a series like a Vintage Add or Running on Empty series, like Mike is happy to do.
Unless of course, they are a Ford or, even better, a Mustang series. ?

I also don’t look online anymore.
I rely only on what I can find in local stores. IE: Walmart.
I have to admit, I plan on visiting Atlantic Passion one of these days though.
Is that the name?
A few years ago I bought a few online to build what could be described as a robust Mustang presence on my walls.
Pumped the brakes on that since.

The prices described by Mike are pretty close. I don’t add taxes.
HW around $1.25 each and Matchbox around $1.29 to $1.49. Sometimes you can find them for $0.99 if you’re willing to bin dive.
Greenlight around $7.49 to $7.99 each.
I also have a few M2 Machines that fit well into the decor.
They are priced very close to Greenlight.

M2 Machine are more gear-head themed I find.
The following examples show.
Hurst themed Mustang, which I have in the 06.
Comp Cams themed Mustang, which I also have in the 06.
And the Shelby, well it’s a Shelby. ?

I also don’t keep track of how many a year.
But it’s not many in last few years.
I don’t think it reached a dozen this year.

Just because you brought it up Marc, I'll go deeper into the rabbit hole.

So not only will Hot Wheels re-issue and re-color castings in one particular year, they will re-use castings in subsequent years, and drop them into a new series.

Check out the bottom right of the cards, and you'll see the series.....any version or variation on the Ford GT was a "Nightburnerz" one year, "Then And Now" another year, "HW Speed Graphics" yet another year, but all the same car, in different colors.

Two of my favourite HW mainline series are "Muscle Mania" and "Hot Trucks", because they're where my interests are, and generally have more "real" vehicles, and less "fantasy" vehicles.

Case in point, all from the 2022 series :

Thats one thing about the upscale M2 and Greenlight offerings, there's typically no "fantasy" vehicles and they're all production cars, which is why I like the Vintage Ad Car series so much, plus the fact that the cars are NOT all typical muscle cars. Would I buy them outside the VAC series?? Probably not. Greenlight movie theme cars don't count a fantasy cars, because they're usually based on real cars.

Incidentally, if you are looking to buy online, there's Atlantic ( ATL) Passion Diecast that Fred goes to in Scoudouc,NB, and there's Passion Diecast in Laval, Quebec, who I've been buying from. Prefer Laval because it's a little closer for shipping, but prices are pretty much on par with Walmart, shipping cost is more than reasonable, and fast in my experience. Finding what you want online is worth every cent and worth it, especially if you have an aversion to peg hunting in Walmart. :D

You still looking for the HW GT350 in blue ???

I've got a spare, but there's no point in paying $2 for it and then dropping $10 - $15 to ship it, they're not THAT hard to find.

Keep looking locally, but push come to shove, if I'm in New Brunswick later this year I'll bring it with me.

ATL Diecast Passion in Scoudouc is getting out of the Business.

My Son dropped into the Store 2 weeks ago and that’s what he told him.

His brother has a Big Die Cast Store in Montreal.

First hit for 2023, adds to the narrative......HW also releases store exclusives in addition to the mainlines.....Target and Kroger versions typically south of the border.

Up here we only really see Walmart Exclusive sets, like this Mopar set I scored this morning.
