1983 GL, project: Cheap Thrills

Haha. Nope missed that one.

When you referred to "Suing" a company instead of using a company. Because when subscribed to your thread I got a notice before you edited your post. I had a good laugh because when I first read it I was like wait he is asking the guy for some tips but he is suing them . Haha

Ah, quite right.

I caught that one when I re-read the post and then corrected it, I guess after you had read the original.

:)

Money came forward a little faster than I though it would.

I'll be contacting Mr Hidley on monday/tues and ordering up a proper rear torque arm suspension for the old nag.

;)

This thing is going to be one Bad Mamma Jamma!

:)

Well, couldn't resist the pull of having Bilsteins all around.

Just ordered 2 rear Bilstein shocks for the fox.

It's Bills all the way around now.

at least I got them at a good price for 220 CAD delivered.

A set of brand new KYB AGX shocks and struts are going to show up on kijiji soon.....

playing around with photoshop and interior colors:

Wife likes it, I'm kinda hot and cold on it.

Seats, door panels and dash pad would be in red and black leather. I can stitch them up myself so I'm only limited by imagination.

I need to stare at it a bit more and maybe tweak the colors/locations a bit.....

That gray panel on the passenger side will be red, like so:

Except I have a tri-bar pony emblem instead of the GT. It's a tri-bar off the dash of an aero fox, so it's proportioned properly for the dash, unlike the fender emblems you see guys stick on the pre 86 dashes. That's just too big and out of scale for my eye.

I'm see-sawing back and forth on the gauge panel bezel.

I've got an all black on like the pic above and the 85/86 panel with the gray raised portions, like so:

I'm leaning towards the all black gauge panel, but I have lots of time to figure that one out....

Well, there went 2800 bucks!

MM torque arm:

MM Panhard bar:

HD adjustable lower control arms:

Magnaflow stainless cat back exhaust.

Plus a couple odds and ends:

Urethane spring isolators front and rear
1/4 wheel spacer

A 10% off Black Friday/Cyber Monday coupon made it a little less painful. 130 USD less painful.

That leaves my with 4 grand in my car fund to finish with tires, paint (and maybe upholstery) and she's ready to go!

Well, after a heck of a lot of wrenchin' that is.....

I wanted to do aluminum heads, but I just couldn't choke down the 2-3 grand CAD prices. With Keeping the E7 heads I give up some power and don't shed the 50 odd pounds off the nose, but it puts me within striking distance (cash flow wise) of actually finishing a running car this winter.

And one heck of a car at that!

:)

I had the Cobra rear bumper cover in my cart, but when I went to check out it said CONUS shipping only.

:(

No worries. My car has neither. it has this wheel:

Needed for the cruise buttons. I think I'm going to try stitching it up in leather since I have a spare.

I'm toying with a MM adjustable rear sway bar, but that's not an inexpensive piece. Jack Hidley says it would make a world of difference, but it's going to come out somewhere around 6-800 bucks. I think I'll just have to console myself with the oem style sway bar for a while longer. I've just got other places to spend that money right now...

thats easy, not as cool as they once were, likely leak, not sure what track rules are for t-tops.
Parking lot rallies no issue, but full track could be.
Can looks more muscle without.
T-tops remind me of charlie's angels ( not that is a bad thing) But not
mean muscle car :)

Too late:

And then along came a sawsall:

Realistically, my car is 90-98% a street car. I'm also a product of the 80's and t-tops......well, they scream 80's.

I'm going to pass on the frilly shirts and big hair though.

Hmmm, I wonder if I still have any leather ties?

:)

Had a nice gent from Ontario reply to my kijiji add for door glass.

Turns out he's on his way down to the valley for xmas with family and he has a yard in Ontario with a wrecked fox mustang t-top. He's selling me the doors and the T roof glass (although rare, they have been known to "pop out" unannounced if installed wrong) and even going to bring them down in Dec when he comes.

:)

Couldn't help myself, total impulse buy:

100 bucks.

It's for a cougar, but I plan to recover it in leather anyways.

I'll have to relocate my cruise control buttons, probably to the center console area where I plan to mount the power window switches.
