Tire suggestions/Mod discussions

Charlie, I am curious, long tubes or shorties ?
What kind of Headers?

The cool thing with a build is it can be pricey, but if done right.
you can do one thing at a time and eventually it all ties in together
So heads, then cams, then intake to match what you have built.
Injectors, Headers, to the right combination of exhaust.
5K later you have a 100 + HP and might take 3-5 years.
SC 6k and you have that by Monday :)

but budget allows to build in sections.

Well.....there's Trevor spending some of my $$......
Will I remove heads and Boss manifold this fall and send out to get ported? Gee, didn't have that in mind til I read the last post! Might as well go forged bottom and top end, while I'm at it....

You guys are absolutely no help!
you don't need a forged bottom, unless you plan on getting over 700HP
the Coyote has a bullitt proof block. :)
See now I am saving you money

OK, because I am having fun, SC
Centrifugal or Roots system.
Different set ups and different costs.

My 4.6 was reasonable, because I went with a DOB manifold. ( department of Boost)
for those who wish to search. Guy in Michigan designed a Manifold you could put on 4.6
that would accept any Shelby SC. you would be shocked how many folks buy a Shelby
and remove the SC to buy bigger one, meaning lots of good used systems.

Now this route requires lots of looking and searching for parts, or buy new form suppliers.
No savings then :) I was lucky, guy in southern NB had SC, intercoolers and few other goodies.
saved a ton of money, then fill the shopping list, Kenny bell Boosta pump for fuel. Injectors, plugs etc.
Aircraft fuel lines, ( we made) and a list of 223 things to do it your self.
If crazy, a long weekend, your in business. I spent winter doing with Help from Helimech and Thundr.
At this point, needed a tune, ASAP or car would shut down.

So if you're not handy and have some help, this is not the route for you.
Kits that cost between 5000 and 8500 come complete and plug and play.
Sat and Sunday, with can tune, your doing test run Sunday night :)

If you put a few bucks away and have some patience you can build a great used system
for a few grand, used, deals and time. Most want tomorrow, so internet, car sites and credit
card and it will arrive ready to bolt on in 7-10 days :)

Trevor,

They are Ford Shorty headers. They were on the car when I got it in 07. That and the K&N were the 2 mods they had done to it. I know longtube are better, however then everything I have for an exhaust now needs to be looked at again.

so basically if I don't touch the exhaust I could go Heads, cams, intake and injectors. If I go down this route on a budget I would more then likely try and find good used stuff out there and accumulate it over the time needed then throw it all on at once and Dyno it the one time.

You guys know anything about Crane cams? Everyone seems to talk about the comps. Found a set of new crane cams with springs for about $1000.00 bucks. Would be almost 1500 new from the US.

Oh the dreams. Lol

you are correct. Here is the trick,
Do research, like your doing it all tomorrow.
This stuff is very much matched items.

So not everything plays as well together as others.
You need to figure where you want to go,
do the research and then start your search.

Remember the better quality stuff, does two things.
Gives you nice power, with less likely of doing damage,
Also longer lasting.

Headers are great example. you can buy long tubes for
$500 up to and over a 1000.
Cheap, will not fit as well , get hotter ( could cause other issues)
Build the whole exhaust, even if buying a piece at a time.

Heads, cams, injectors are matched items, not all play well together.

So, you get to research and read. Fun part is, its car stuff and you have some time.

Yeah I agree. I have time. Budget is definitely blown for this year anyways.

So you don't think the shortys will cut it? I heard some heat issues with longtubes in our cars in the cabin.

Shorties give you sound.
Many arguing about producing any HP increase.
General speaking very low if any.
Longtubes, with good exhaust, upwards of 10% is possible.
That and air intake are two cheapest HP gains.

This is where high quality makes big difference, fit is better.
Less likely to scrap when driving. better quality heat control.

Not unlike my Build Charlie. I read lots, take suggestions
and keep reading. I even Sent Email to Maximum motorsports,
requisition information, got a good reply.

I am now figuring out, where I am going and deciding on products I want.
I take my time, make notes and enjoy the research :)

Yeah I heard that about the sound and the shorties. I don't like going backwards though lol. Mid pipe would need changed if I do headers. So that would be at the tail end if I do it.

I agree.I am open to all suggestions and will do lots of reading.

It will be over a few years for sure.

Great thing is, you can do research, and do first mod and get modest gains
with each one as budget allows. Then off to next.

Heads
Cams
Injectors, Plugs
induction
Headers and exhaust
Tune

Oh and anyone doing HP mods, should always look at brakes.
With HP comes difficulty in stopping.
big brakes are not cheap, but always a great mod.
Realistically good Idea to look at there early in build.

For those reading and have done suspension.
That should always be first.
Most Mustangs do not handle that well,
adding power only makes those problems bigger.

Airflow Research (AFR) 1388 - AFR 185cc SBF Renegade 20 Degree Street Heads
Here is one example
Keep in mind, when you read, some stuff is not included.
likely speaking with them so they understand
what your doing will help them give you advice.
Knowing cams will make big difference.

this stuff all works better, when built to work together.
Some can't be installed with out other.
Just like school, home work lol.

Just a general comment - to make power needs more air and fuel ( heads ,cams, injectors, fuel pump mods) but breathing (airflow) on a naturally aspirated engine Is very dependant on a free flowing exhaust. If the air can’t get out - it won’t go in! To see the full results of cams and heads ,exhaust improvements will need to happen at the same time.
SC engines double/ triple the air by forcing it in - good exhaust flow is still required but the SC can hide some of the exhaust flow problems until power levels get Higher

just trying to help you spend some more dollars ?
