Tire suggestions/Mod discussions

Yeah I definitely have rain performance in mind as well. I however have been running 275's on all 4 corners for years and have been caught in the rain a few times with no issues so far. Tag being said I am going to 10.5 wheel in the back from a 9 so I need to go wider.

Micheline makes some good tires and those 2 you mentioned have come up in conversation in the past. The F1 super car seems to be the one that comes up the most and the Pilot as well. The choices of tires is crazy. Thanks for the info on those 2 as well.

I always run equal psi all around. Usually at 32psi in my 275. Drive better and wear very good with the coopers. The 2 psi difference in the back with wider tires makes sense. Never thought of it before. What are you running in the fronts? I found 35 stiff with the coopers.

I run 32 psi in front on 255/45/18 Eagle F1's.
32 all around is the recommended pressure with 235/55/17 tires which were the original size that came on the car.
I run 30 psi in the rear on 285/40/18 Eagle F1's.
I can run those pressures at the track too.
Excellent steering, traction and wear.
A bit more pressure in front is good for sidewall support in cornering and a bit less in rear is good for traction.

I checked the GT500 recommended air pressure from the same era.
The F1 being original equipment to the GT500. The recommended pressure for the GT500 is 35 psi all around.
The GT500 was heavier than the GT, especially in front with the iron block 5.4 and the supercharger.
I tried that pressure and it was too hard for the GT.

For ride quality and cornering, the GT can be run with 32 all around with the F1 sizes I have but the trade off is slightly less traction under hard launch and rear tires wear unevenly faster in the middle from the crowning effect.

I will start with the same 32 front/30 rear on the 2015 because it too recommends 32 psi all around on 235/50/18 original tires.

Well guys after a bit of back and forth I finally pulled the trigger on my new wheels 17”x9” and 17”x10.5” Chrome cobras. We Checked around 6 tire shops this morning and I am not sure if it is the pandemic and lack of tire production or what but we were only able to find Toyo Extensa HP 2 in the rear tire I was looking for and I need them to match. I had already done some research on these and for what I do with the car and from reviews I have read I believe it will be good for me. So I pulled the trigger this morning on 2-275/40-17 and 2-315/35-17. Hopefully I will have them by the end of the week.

Thanks guys. Yeah I like the thread as well. Looking forward to seeing what they look like.

Yes I agree. Already had the road balance conversation with them.Definitely going down that road. Makes a world of difference.
Agreed. Once you get to those tire and wheel specs, it's best to go with the specialists over the usual tire installation shops. They all like getting their hands on performance stuff, but too much investment for someone's playful afternoon!

Yes I agree. The last set I put on this car there was one wheel they could not get balanced until I took I took it to a shop with the road force machine. I made sure this time the shop has one from the get go.

Look good, I will have to look up reviews and ratings.
I know Toyo makes some really good tires.
I look at that tread, they look like winters compared to mine.
But nice pattern, should be good set up.
Those are going to be fat on azz going to be sharp.
No skinny jeans for you LOL

I get mine done at Ford, two reasons only they dealer have these tire balancers
they are touches on the rims, so no way the can be marked or damaged.
Two if someone ever does damage them, I want someone show is going good for
rims.

As far as performance balancing goes, they work good, I have never had any issues
and the odd time I have been to Mexico, no issues :)

Yeah I did some reaearch and they got some decent ratings from what I saw. The reviews from customers where good also. Looking forward to seeing them on that Azz!!

Cool..... Christmas in May !!

Gonna look some sharp ! Where did you order your wheels from Charlie ? Those are my favorite style for that generation of car.
Thanks Roger. Christmas in May, Fathers day and next Christmas. Lol

I ordered the wheels from LMR. They appear to have a fantastic finish. I put a few coats of wax on the face and inside of the wheels yesterday before they got dropped to the garage this afternoon.

forgot to say, if the use Vaseline around holes when putting lugs in, less likely to scratch over time.
bit of a pain to clean up after, but works fairly well.
Ahh I never heard that one. Will definitely try that when I throw these bad boys on. More pics to follow. I love the look of the thread. Wife picked them up as the fronts are not in yet but I wanted the wheels out of there. 25F58264-6328-4A19-8206-C40F16BD5C83.jpeg
