Not many are aware the very first Mustang, serial number 5F08F100001, off the assembly line, was bought by a Canadian..
Ford later ended up buying it back from the purchaser, as they wanted it for their museum. As part of the deal he was given the 1,000,000th Mustang produced in 1966, and it was also a white convertible.
 
Apparently Lee Iacocca claimed that there was a trend of naming cars after animals, so an advertising consultant gave Ford a list of mostly animal names for the car. And one of them was Mustang, and the name had nothing to do with the P-51..
