Thought of the day.

Lots of references being made to hurricane Juan.....hype comes from media but forecasting these storms isn't an exact science. Regardless of the "category" of the storm or any suggestion of where it may make landfall along the eastern Atlantic coast, it is going to have a pretty major impact across much of the maritimes. MM members in north western NB will be out cruising when most of us will be cleaning up a mess on Sunday!

Advice to heed the precautions, get ready for a wet and windy Sat and Sun. and try to avoid the embarrassment of going across the street to retrieve your deck umbrella from your neighbour's picture window!

Get ready, stay safe and protect your rides! Interested in updates from everyone as this storm rolls through.

Yeah it has been talked about quite a bit. Getting extra gas for the generator and supplies that are needed today. Just in case we lose power. Looks like Halifax area is in for it way worst then us in in South Eastern NB but as mentioned above it is not an exact science.

Be safe everyone.

I think everyone is out grabbing as much stuff as they can for the doom coming Saturday lol.

City was totally nuts today.

Ya, before I get groceries, I just put everything away from the Deck that wasn't nailed down. Won't be as bad as HRM here, but along with Rain we could see gusts up to 90KPH.

Got 40 liters of Supreme for the Generator yesterday too.

Everyone stay safe.

Juan was a fun experience. Since then I’ve made sure to be ready anytime one potentially comes near. We lucked out in 2004, no damage and only lost power for 2 days. But that experience was enough to say hmmm I probably should have been a bit more prepared lol.

The folks on radio and TV, like to hype it to the extreme.
I believe one should get ready and do the obvious as mentioned above.
But some of the photos and stories you here are insane, folks at costco with
3 massive carts full of food, line ups to infinity, its almost funny.
Its a storm, not the apocalypse LOL.

Being in the business I am helps, I have several trucks and many fuel jugs,
so made sure all were full. I have 10 propane tanks, I think 8 are full.
I have a generator, BBQ and wood stove if it becomes required.
I will fill tub with water, it allows me to flush if needed.
Other than that, relax and deal with what ever happens.
Not like we can change it, so having a heart attack preparing seems a bit much.

I hope I keep power, at least I can watch some movies and report here.
Be safe everyone.

after 4 days of no power from hurricane Arthur a few years back, i went a bought a nice big generator and hooked up a pony panel to feed most of the house. guess what haven't lost power since..lol . every time we hear the media scaring the bejusus out of everyone of a new upcoming storm , i think , this is it, i get to use my generator..maybe tomorrow i can ..who knows..

i remember Juan well, i was in halifax for work that week. we were staying at the Barrinton and the storm was right on us as we went through the pedway to head towards the casino, the Plexiglas was flexing pretty good, got to the other side and and we heard one blow in, on the way back it was all blocked off and we had to go outside to get to the hotel, was quite the experience..

Fingers crossed and hoping we don’t lose power for too long. I invested a couple of years ago in a generator panel and generator so at least we have the basics covered. Did buy a new larger generator in the spring just in-case needed and have 3 or 4 jugs of fuel ready. We are on a well here, so provided I have the generator running we can get water.

Hope you guys in Halifax get through this unscathed.

I thought I’d pick up an extra can of gas ( already had lots) when we were delivering Brains car to a hard roof storage area and found no gas at Petro can Fall River, no gas at shell in elmsdale, no gas at ESSO Elmsdale, I got gas at ESSO Enfield, Shell had a tanker arrive as I was coming home. It’s crazy at the stores. Wishing everyone a safe weekend !

Be safe everyone, don't do anything to put your self in harms way. More people died getting ready for the storm that was heading toward the eastern seaboard than the storm killed.

I have my car and boat side by each in the garage, geny fueld and two jugs of gas. I am used to no power, since the camp runs on propane only.

It's all over the news that by the time this thing hits HRM it will probably be a Cat 2 storm. Just seen footage of what it did in North Carolina at a Cat 1 and it made a lot of damage with huge amounts of water being dumped and pouring in at a rate of even a few feet an hour. So be careful and be safe people ........... this storm has the potential for heavy destruction.

Eastern PEi is under hurricane warning with landfall as a cat 1 possible. Heavy rain with it in larger amounts than Juan. This will likely have some significant impacts to washouts and will overwhelm some culvert and bridge structures. Along with damage assessments Sunday and Mondsy, I'll monitor damage reports for the planned route for the fall run. Fingers crossed everyone is prepared, able to ride out the wind and rain tonight & the recovery afterward is a speedy one. Everyone stay safe and dont let your curiosity to get out to see the impacts of the storm put you and others at risk or impede responders who will be working diligently to repair damages.
