Picked up a 2010 Hardtop GT

I enjoyed my 2024 convertible, but missed driving a standard after selling my 2003 5 speed last Summer. I also like tinkering with a car over the winter, and the 24 did not need a lot of work. For a couple of months I have been watching Kijiji, Autotrader, Facebook Marketplace, and other sites trying to find a suitable car. It had to be a GT, standard, and preferably blue. Over the weekend, I found the right car at a dealer in Charlottetown. After giving it a good look over, including crawling under it, test driving it, and reviewing the Carfax report, after a lot of negotiation, I drove it away. The car spent most of its life in BC and Alta, and was represented as having never been winter driven. After looking at the undercarriage, under hood, body, and odometer (109,000 kms), I don’t believe it was winter driven.

Tires will need replacement, but interior is in great condition, clutch is good, all accessories work, and it runs well. Paint is original, and has nice shine, but stone chips were never touched up, and it needs a good clay bar, paint correction, and ceramic coat. I almost ordered the same aftermarket wheels for the 2024, before finding another set. New exhaust has been ordered, along with a CAI, front splitter, and a number of items. Dealer sticker has been removed. The mods on this car may never be done.

Interior and under hood needed a good cleaning and have been done. White bulbs for the fog lights coming.

When I saw it, I thought that it looked similar to your car. Not sure if the side louvres are factory or not. The color of the louvers is a perfect match. I believe your car is newer and maybe not Kona Blue. The clutch feels good and I was amazed at how clean the underside of the car was.

When I called the dealership, the person I talked to advised that they were not sure if the car was still on the lot as they did not want to keep it for the winter, and we’re going to send it to the auction. I went down and drove it, and looked it over. I went into the dealership and the negotiations began. It was evident that the sales manager wanted the car gone and offered it to me for about $2200 under asking. I countered with less than that, and to my surprise, they took it.

Working on some cosmetics this morning while waiting for parts to arrive. Replaced the Yellowish” fog light bulbs with bright white bulbs to match the headlights and provide more light. Both seats had some wear at the back from a belt, or something similar. Leather reconditioner did a good job of masking the wear.

That's a weird wear pattern for the seat, but amazing restoration.

With this being a later model S197, I'm curious for your impressions of the shifter. ( Not sure if it had any OEM upgrades between '06 and '10 )

Only reason I say that was that I found the OEM shifter in my 2006 to be less than great, and it was a night and day difference to go to an aftermarket short throw shifter.... I believe it was a Steeda Tri-Ax, one of the first mods I did and a very satisfying upgrade.

Close second was the FRPP FR3 Handling Pack and FRPP 4.10's.

As we frequently say in this forum, no shortage of people looking to help you spend your money.

I have only put about 100kms on the car so far and have not driven it very hard yet. Yesterday was the first time I drove it on dry roads. Other than the wheels, the car appears totally stock. The throws for the shifter are fairly short, it seems precise, and the clutch is adjusted perfectly IMO. On wet pavement I noticed that there was a lot of rear wheel hop if you came onto the gas at all at low speeds.

I am definitely open to suggestions from anybody who has owned this model, or has more experience with them than I have, which is not a lot. I’ve got a cat back exhaust, front splitter, hood struts, stripes, and a bunch of other little things coming.

None of those will make the car faster, or handle any better, but working towards that will be my next goal. New tires will likely be the next item. Wheels take a 245/45R19 tire.

Well I have heavly modded an 08 and we know Marc has
so we will be more than willing to help you spend your money,
Upside the advice will produce results.

Clutch if good and keeping stock HP or tune with mild upgrade in HP
Stock clutch will handle it no problem, when its time, I would upgrade to Macleods Pro street set up,
not insane money and will take incredible torq, with no side affects of normal driving.

I would recommend the MGW short throw shifter, work incredible good and easy to instal.
Suspension, well I say go all in, you have a nice Sunday cruiser, now you can have a weekend warrior
toy, All IN, push the chips :)

Clutch on these cars is very robust.
Will handle anything you can throw at it naturally aspirated.
So unless doing FI and big power, don’t worry about clutch.

Suspension? Definitely go all in!
It’s the best mod you can do to that car.
Will make the car way more fun to drive.
Do that before worrying about shifter as well.
That’s lowering springs, shocks/struts, sway bars, adjustable Panhard bar and brace (the OE brace is pretty flimsy), rear lower control arms and, yes, relocation brackets to tame that wheel hop, K-member brace optional but not expensive for the added chassis stiffness, and caster-camber plates to fine tune camber and improve steering response by taking play out of strut top.

For easy power add, good CAI like JLT series 3 and 91 octane tune, along with under drive pulleys.
There is no resonators on these cars, so the exhaust work you are doing won’t yield much or any gains but will change the sound.
They respond well to long tube headers with high flow cats in the mid pipe. Tune required for these as well.

And I’m also a big fan of a gear upgrade if staying N/A.
The car is born with 3.55’s, but that 3 valve power plant is not a torque monster so gears liven it up.
I did 3.73’s before even picking up my ‘06.
A lot of people who do 4.10’s in those are happy with the results, like Mike above.
Especially if you don’t do long hauls with it.
Which, with your other car in the stable, is realistic.
I now have 3.90’s in.

Great advice, thanks for taking the time and sharing your knowledge and experience with this model. I will be printing off your post and putting it my build hard copy folder.

I hope you do the writing here, it nenfits future folks as well as Kevin

373 ford racing gears, best of both worlds.
tune and air intake for sure.
I would consider exhaust, not crazy but if this becomes pure toy
long tube headers will give you some performance and wake up nieghbors :)
