New Bronco

Seeing this Bronco reminded me of something from many years back...

My kids attended a high school that was about 30 miles away, and no school bus was available. With both myself and my wife working in the city, (in the opposite direction), it was quite an undertaking getting them to and from school every day. It added about 45 minutes to an already one hour commute time. We both worked in completely different areas of the city, and had different working hours, so the wife and I drove separate vehicles. Because my job was more flexible with start times, I was the kids chauffeur for several years.
So soon after my daughter got her drivers license, I bought her a used, but great condition Camaro. She and her younger brother could now drive to school. When my daughter graduated high school, my son would no longer be riding to school with her come September. He had another two years to go.
She needed her car to commute to college, so I went looking for a vehicle for my son. A friend and a mechanic at the dealer I worked at had a Bronco that looked exactly like the one pictured. He maintained it well and really enjoyed it, but he had a bit of a commute to work as well, and had purchased a Honda to help with the fuel costs, so he put his Bronco up for sale. Thinking a larger vehicle would offer certain aspects of safety, plus 4 wheel drive come winter, I figured it would be perfect.
When I brought it home for my son to test drive it, he was not impressed at all. This was around the time that for kid at his age, driving an early 80's 2 door Olds Cutlass, Pontiac Grand Prix, or a Monte Carlo, was the cool car to have. He was stubborn as all get out, so begrudgingly I returned the Bronco.. I thought it was great, but for a new driver's first vehicle, I admit it was a bit of a beast.
Was he pissed when I brought home a Pontiac 6000 4door. To him it was a grandma's car..lol It had a V6 and ran great.,He eventually got over it, and he put on a set of mag wheels and a decent CD stereo in it, and drove it for several years. Shame though he didn't appreciate the Bronco.. :)

My best friends first vehicle was a 79 Bronco. He and i couldn't be happier with it. We got into some situations with it for sure, oh the memories 😁
