Mustang Trivia.

GT had full-size foglights in the grille, ( easy one for S197 owners indeed!!) , sixer just had a pony, and the upgraded sixer had a pony and two smaller fog lights surrounded by a chrome outline side to side.

I'm sure about the GT, but uncertain about the six, but enough to call it good.

Your are right -Good comments on the grill combinations and small lights only with the 6 cyl pony package .Actually the grills are different 6 vs 8 they won’t interchange ! but there is more for the eagle eyed viewer. What else can you see ?

The chrome foglight surround is referred to as a choral.

SVT4MT got all the obvious traits right.
He deserves the win and next question.

But the bumpers are different on each model.
V6 sculpted a bit rounder with obvious square indent for front plate.
Lower opening of V6 is divided into three parts.

V8 bumper looks a bit more chiseled.
Has no indent for plate and lower opening divided into 4 parts.
V8 bumper also extends a bit lower on each side in front of wheels.
Like extensions that hang a bit lower about a half inch.

I'll build on Gerry's original question....but mix it up a bit and ask if you were meeting one of the S197 special models , 2005-2009 year , what differences would you see between a GT/CS, a Bullitt, and a GT500 from a front view ?

This should be an easy one for a S197 owner. Firstly tho, was a Boss built i the 2005 2009? Thinking S197 extended to 2014.

I believe you are right Hugh ,S197 ran until 2014 as the S550 came in 2015.
S197’s got body side line revisions in 2010 and lots of hood/ fender/ grill changes from 2010 - 2014 and a Boss model .
No Boss in the 2005-2009 though - we had no 302 !

For clarification :

S197 from 2005-2009
S197 Gen II from 2010-2014

Incidentally, BOSS 302 in 2012 and 2013.

My question was aimed at S197 first gen, and yes, its easy for S197 owners. lol

No takers on question?

Ok, Bullitt is easiest.
Identical bumper to GT but plain grille.
No fog lights nor pony in grille.
Thin polished metal grille surround from one sibe through bottom part to other side.
None at the top.
To confirm it’s a Bullitt it must be black or dark highland green, only 2 colours abailable.

Next GT/CS or California Special.
Same grille as GT complete with fog lights and Pony.
Difference is the bumper.
Top part of bumper identical to GT with no indent for front plate.

Difference is all at bottom of bumper where there is a faux or imitation splitter. Only it’s not a real splitter. It’s more like a bulge or chin at the bottom of the bumper.
It hangs a fraction lower than the GT bumper and the middle part of this chin is painted black the width of the lower opening.
Each side of the black is body colour.
Real keen observers at an angle allowing to do so would also observe a slightly wider body at door hight and maybe two black spots.
These would be the faux side scoops that were part of the GT/CS package.

Bumper and scoop visible here.

Last is the GT500.
This one stands out the most as being something different.
First a bulge on hood from heat extractors.
Many with over the top Shelby stripes.
Grille has no fog lights or pony but a Cobra snake on driver side, so to the right part of grille when meeting the car.
Grille is also angled wider on the way down on each side so headlight lenses also have this angular or diamond shape on each side of grille.
Different from V6 or any GT variant ie Bullitt or GT/CS.
Bumper also different.
Lower opening has reverse angle to grille where it gets wider from bottom up and has smaller fog lights in the bumper, one each side of lower grille opening.
Both upper and lower opening combine to create like a happy face smile.
Finally a true black splitter at bottom of bumper.

Sorry Hugh, couldn't find one in blue and white with this clear front view.

Let’s talk colour

The original BULLITT was green but what green ?

The 2001 BULLITT came in more than one colour - they were ?

Then the 2008-2009 BULLITT - did you have a colour choice ? if so what was the choice?

Several posts back, Fred said he was too busy during “driving” season to give this thread much attention.
He declined to ask another question last time he got answer right.
If he doesn’t answer in a few days, you might as well.

1968 Dark Highland green, but do some reading and the colour mix was quite incredible,
with peral and mettalic etc.

2001, Black, true blue and Dark highland green.

2019 version Dark highland green and shadow black.
