65 Again: 2017 Shelby GT350

67 AGAIN

Enthusiast
Well, it’s not going to be a Mach1 for me anymore.

I was going for the Mach1 right up to last week. Then confirmed the order I have in will be filled as a 2023 model.
So price increase to neighbourhood of $80,000.00.
Shelby money but still not a Shelby.
So did some online searching and found a mint 2017 with only 5600 km.
Picked it up in Montreal Tuesday.
Paid a bit of a premium for the low mileage but basically a new 5 year old car.

Similar theme as my 06.
Since the GT350 traces its origins back to 1965, I’ve already ordered the plate which will be 65AGAIN.

It’s one of 400 2017’s in Lightning blue with the black stripes.
There was 909 in Lightning blue that year.
Along with the 400 with black stripes, there was 387 with white stripes and 122 with no stripes.
It has Recaros and the electronics pack, meaning 9 speaker sound system, Sync3, Nav and dual zone climate control.

Don’t have many pics yet. It’s still filthy from picking it up.
Heavy rain in construction zone this side of Rivière du Loup in Quebec.
Got sprayed with dirty water.
Washing it is on the to do for tomorrow morning.

A couple pics from day of pickup.

Thats awesome Marc, congrats, love the color.

You'll have the added bonus of the transmission cooler, which was added (along with + $10k base MSRP) as standard equipment on the 2017.

You're in for a whole lot of fun...... did you get the owners package with it ?

Thanks everyone.

Yes,Mike, I did get the owner’s pack with it.
The flat plane crank display with the chassis number and all.
Quite nice.
I was happy to see it was included.
A lot of guys who sell keep that for themselves.
So it’s buyer beware.

The only thing I don't have yet is the correct car cover.
This car did not come with it.
It is not listed on the window sticker.
Usually it’s listed as a dealer installed option when it’s included.

Just took a quick look on eBay, as I'm sure you have, and the OEM covers are out there.

I wonder if you can still order them from Ford Performance ??

Thats a nice bonus from a car guy perspective if all the documentation is intact.

I took a quick look on my window sticker, and the cover was listed..... guess the original owner decided against it in your case.

It's a nice addition, not the highest quality cover I've ever had, but for basic garage storage it works great.

The model specific details on the cover are a nice touch, if I didn't have one I'd definitely order from the parts desk.

I guess the inevitable question comes up as to what's on your shopping list ???

Hood struts, oil separators, BMR jacking rails and maybe a resonator delete come to mind right out of the gate.

I’m going to need a new cover.
I don’t think the one from the ‘15 will fit because of the raised wing and more aggressive front bumper.

Will compare the factory one to what Covercraft have available.
You’re right, the factory one is cool because of the stripes and logos but it’s very thin and flimsy.

I like the Covercraft Evolution Block-it model.
It’s thicker and has a softer underside.

“H” pipe resonator delete and oil separator are top of list for mods.
Even kept the catch can from the ‘15 hoping it would fit here.
It’s close but one of the fittings on Shelby is a 45 degree and they are both 90 degrees on the GT, so not quite doable.
The hoses don’t have nearly enough flex.

So, I now have a 15 to 17 GT passenger side oil separator for sale.
It may fit 18 and above too.
I’ll have to check.

Also contemplating caster-camber plates but afraid if I make front end even tighter than it already is it will make tram lining worse.
So camber bolts may be the way to go.

And strongly considering a tune if for nothing else but to wake up the throttle response for rev matching purposes.
I notice the delay in the throttle by wire, especially in normal mode.
There’s practically no throttle response in normal mode where the delay is so long.

It’s better in sport mode but nowhere near the response I get out of my 06.
Took a short spin yesterday and whole new learning curve.
It blips in sport mode but not very high and slows right back down just as quickly.
By the time releasing clutch, still catching some engine braking.
Not good for clutch and not good for car stability.
In my mind, it’s like I have to floor it do get a decent blip, and that’s not normal.
This is where a tune could help drive-ability by improving throttle response.

It’s like I’m learning to drive all over.
The very light clutch is very different too.
It doesn’t push up on your foot at all like traditional clutch pedals.
If you don’t physically lift your foot up the pedal does not provide any assistance.

Maybe a cradle lockout and vertical link in the back too but not sure on this car where everything is so much tighter and beefier than other Mustangs.

Got some research to do.

Only Mods to Mine were passenger side oil catch can
and Maximum motorports Caster camber plates.
reason for that choice, when I was in Sebring before car was build for my spin
it is what Ford Perfromance had put on everyone of the cars there. 350 and 350R
Lets you adjust the way you want and trust me you will want.

Clutch was a massive conversation when these cars were built.
There is a spring kit that can be bought at most suppliers
to give you the stiffer peddle most are familiar with.
I decided to wait and see how it went, after a couple weeks
I was fine and made the adjustment just fine and enjoy the lighter clutch.

I never noticed rev matching to be a problem, maybe its slightly different
in the 2 models. But I was fine with what I did, the rest I made the adjustment.
Amount of mods now are incredible, but I like the stock form.
If I had a 350, I would for sure to resonator delete.
