65 Again: 2017 Shelby GT350

Start of new season with oil change today.

Well, finally broke this guy out yesterday for oil change, inspection, alignment and recharge A/C.

Now I have to wash the summer’s worth of dust and the few flies I picked up driving to and from dealership.
So, doing a run to Campbellton tomorrow morning before I wash it.
Test the Fall run route and make the wash worthwhile.

I put the word out to a half dozen local Mustang guys to see if any interested in joining me.
No takers on such short notice, so looks like I’ll be flying solo.

Hoping to reconnect with this car.
Noticed I was a bit rusty driving home tonight.
I forget how much gas I have to give it for proper rev matching.
Big difference on throttle response between this car and my green car.
The green car responds instantly and willingly.
This car does not respond nearly as enthusiastically to throttle blips.

The 350 is such a different engine, You are so right on how you drive this versus a normal
V-8 Mustang.

I am curious what you do with your alignment setting?
Did you put caster camber plates on it?

Looks great Marc, if I had it all to do over again I would order Lightning Blue instead of Agate Black for sure.

I've had a bit more use out of mine though, just 20 km short of rolling 50,000 km on my '16.

Any particular reason you are recharging the A/C ??

I had an issue where it was blowing warm air, so I got it re-charged and then had a leak where all the refrigerant vented.

Yes I had CC plates put in when I first got the car.
All my Mustangs have CC plates.

I used to run pretty aggressive camber negative 1.4 - 1.5 degrees, and slightly closed toe. .02 to .03 toe in on each side, from whatever the straight ahead position number is. For a total toe in of .04 to .06.

I say the straight ahead position because I’ve discovered that the numbers can be different between the Hunter and John Bean machines, and different numbers on the same machine for the GT and the Shelby.

So just start from dead ahead centre number and toe in .03 of a degree each side.
This helps mitigate inner tire wear with negative camber.

I also discovered that even with closed toe, I was getting some inner tire wear in part because they tend to open up again pretty fast. Every pothole and expansion joint you hit wants to open up the front.

So this year I dialled the camber back a bit to negative 1.2 range. No difference perceived on street. Still closed toe .02 to .03 each side.

I run pretty high caster numbers. In the 7 degree range.
Meaning my steering wheel does not pop back straight as soon as I let it go.
I have to centre it but I get better road feedback that way and I control how fast I centre it back.

I recharged it because it wasn’t blowing cool air anymore.
I think it just evaporated/emptied from not being used enough.
They put a die in it so if it does leak, we’ll be able ti find the leak easily.
I used it a lot today and it worked all day just fine.

Well, didn’t go to Campbellton after all.
Ended up getting a few friends out and we went to Quebec and drove part of hwy 132 along the St-Lawrence seaway and some secondary highways back to NB.

A pic here along the seaway.
White car is White 5.0 from the forum.
The Silver GT500 is from the state of Maine, and the Dark Horse is from Grand Falls.
The Dark Horse attended the Atlantic Nationals with me last summer.
There’s a chance all three will be at the fall run.
