Thought of the day.

When I was a kid, my dad drove to save fuel, at least according to him it saved fuel. Up until he bought a 1970 Impala, his first car with an automatic tranny, all of his previous cars had manual transmissions. Thank goodness I learned to drive on one of them, as I gained a very good understanding of the ins and outs of driving with a clutch, from the get-go.
Anyways.. his fuel saving trick was to shift from first gear to third gear, skipping second altogether. he figured the higher third gear ratio didn't require the rpms, thus saving fuel. He trick was to wind it up to pretty high rpms, (sounded angry).. in first gear, and then quickly slip the steering column shift lever, (3 on the tree), into third. This had to be done quickly and smoothly before the rolling speed dropped, or it would start to lug. His trick really only worked on level roads, If there was much of an incline the old 235 ci straight six didn't quite have the oomph to prevent lugging from occurring, which would then entail a quick downshift into second to keep up with traffic.. You didn't want to blow that shift to second or you may have to come to a complete stop, and restart from the basement. These older 50's and 60's cars didn't have synchro for first gear, so to downshift into first while you were still rolling was a bit of a feat. You had to quickly double clutch to drop into first, or you would hear the gears grinding. Some people never did master double clutching.:)

The end of the season is approaching fast!

Just saw that the PEI Mustangs are having an end of season run on Oct 18th, with cars expected to be coming from NS, NB, as well as PEI.
I’m not seeing any details on here, but it’s listed as an event on our Facebook page.

It not an official event of ours. She just posted it as an event on our page. She probably should start a thread with details.

Did not get as much cleaning of edge of fields as I usually do this summer.
With trip to BC, Mustang runs, daughter’s wedding and general procrastination.
So took today off and got my outside on.
Beautiful warm fall day before rain and cool down tonight.

This picture would have been contestant for fall photo contest.
Ho well!

Stopped to do a regen on diesel engine.
Can’t do it while mowing.
RPMs required are too high for mower.
