Funny I was thinking the same thing today and was looking at routes in Quebec, including going to Rivière du Loup, then crossing the St. Lawrence at “ Three Pistols” and doing that side of the river to Quebec City.
I’d be in for a domestic spring run.
Along a body of water and some mountains just makes it even better.
I’d propose a variation to your suggestion.
Avoid big city traffic and any 4 lane driving.
All small towns, relatively low traffic if we go before end of school year(before June 20th I’d venture to guess), plus craft beer breweries in easy walking distance to hotels on both overnight stays.
Two nights of accommodations.
Campbellton and Perce.
Drive to Campbellton Friday. Stay at Howard Johnson on waterfront, lots of parking and restaurant on site.
Easy walk to Artisan craft brewery for supper or after supper.
Saturday, drive the Gaspe coast across to the north shore through the Chic Choc mountains and around the tip to overnight in Perce.
Scenic resort town and supper with craft beers at Pit Caribou craft brewery and restaurant.
The drive through the mountains is 50% along a winding and fast flowing salmon river, with lots of turns and elevation changes.
Sunday, drive south shore back to Campbellton and everyone returns home.
I would pattern this similar to New Hampshire run. Lots of driving and guys and beers at end of day. Not for shopping and stopping everywhere.
I’m no expert with Google maps so I can’t get proposed route on single map.
So I have screen shot 3 to show Saturday’s route.
Maps says it’s 6 hours of driving.
Saturday, leave Campbellton around 8:30, you gain an hour crossing into Quebec, so 6 hours of driving, an hour for lunch, a couple of 1/2 hour scenery/nature breaks and a half hour scenery break in Forillon National park, land in Perce between 4:30 and 5 pm local time.
Supper reservation between 6:00 and 7:00 should be no issue.
Stay at Riotel motel in Perce
I’ve stayed there before. Decent parking and restaurant on site for breakfast.
The whole north shore drive is low traffic and quite scenic along the coast.
Slides show Saturday drive first to third in sequence.
