I saw the sign in the background of the above picture and looked it up.
Would have been a cool place to visit.

What was Greasewood Flat?
  • A Historic Site:
It began in the late 1800s as a stagecoach stop and ranch bunkhouse at Reata Pass, evolving into a popular saloon and steakhouse later on.

  • An Eclectic Vibe:
The establishment featured a unique atmosphere with antique machinery, livestock, and a collection of autographed dollar bills on the walls.

  • A Social Hub:
It was a popular spot for a wide range of people, including cowboys, bikers, families, and tourists, who enjoyed the laid-back setting, live music, and campfires.

  • A Culinary Destination:
The restaurant was famous for its burgers, particularly the green chili cheeseburger, and for serving s'mores.
Why did it close?
  • Estate Taxes and Development:
The property was sold to Taylor Morrison Homes to cover estate taxes and other expenses following the death of the founder, George "Doc" Cavalliere, in 2010.

  • End of an Era:
The closure marked the end of a significant era for many in the Scottsdale community and surrounding areas.
