2025 Motorsports Racing Season.

It is amazing and wonderful, just how far driver safety has improved so much in just the last few years. There has also been some huge crashes in NASCAR, and NHRA and other racing formats with no fatality's, and with most having the drivers climbing out and walking away.
Rally racing seems to be an area still needing driver safety improvements, as the number of deaths is quite high. In fairness, the venues where rally races are held are so diverse it's nearly impossible to allow for all the aspects that may incur in a crash. You'll never see a tree branch penetrating the windscreen at a NASCAR race for example. It may also be that the vehicle's driver safety standards are not as stringent as other racing formats. Rally events are often held by small local car clubs, or organizations, with contestants driving street cars with few if any, modifications, and many times running on public roads, so high speeds aren't a concern. Helmets and a seat belts are often the only requirements. Driving experience is not policed either. If you have the entry fee, you're good to go. Rally is also really the only racing where there is a passenger in the car, doubling the odds of an injury or death.
Crazy as it would seem, in 2017 an eight year old Australian girl testing for her racing license in the Junior Drag racing class, died after a crash during a solo run. Apparently her helmet cracked after hitting the steering wheel, and she died from head injuries. Then just this past February, a seven year old American girl also testing for a Junior Drag license, (also from head injuries), died after a crash at Orlando Speed World in Florida. The maximum speed for their age group is running the 1/8th mile, is the 330 feet in 13.9 seconds or slower, which is roughly around 30 mph.

There were a few exciting moments during the race. Max got lucky with the timing for the VSC (safety car) cautions, or the results may have been different. Max showing his champion prowess, did accomplish an amazing pass of Piastri at the very beginning, and stretched out his lead. Piastri could have pushed Max off think, but he drove fair.
For a track that was supposed to be very hard to pass on, there were still some brilliant passes made.
What I enjoyed was seeing a few other teams actually becoming more competitive. The rest of the season may become more exciting..

The 66th annual running of the Knox Mountain Hillclimb event in Kelowna BC was run this May long weekend.. Knox Mountain is the longest annually running, paved hillclimb event in North America. This is the only officially sanctioned hillclimb event held in Canada, and brings racers from all over the Pacific Northwest.
The 2.2 mile (3.5 km) paved road to the summit is narrow with off-camber corners, steep grades, and climbs approximately 800 feet (245 meters) in elevation. I have personally seen a few cars slide over the side of the mountain. Fortunately the plentiful trees on the slopes usually catch the cars before they tumble to far down. More than one has been written off from having an off.. I saw a Mini Cooper stuck up in a tree one year. It was hanging from the branches. Times under two minutes are considered exceptionally fast, with few drivers achieving that and even fewer sedans having ever achieved that. Most times fall between 2m00s and 2m30s. To achieve top times, speeds in excess of 160kpH must be reached on the short straights.

This video shows some of the vehicles heading back down the mountain after their first run. The green Cobra is powered by Tesla, and did one run of 1m46.9s. The all-time record at the event was set in 2023 by Aran Cook, with a time of one minute and 34 seconds.

Yeah, it was a good race, a lot of overtakes, always some luck with safety cars etc.
But some really good racing.

Monaco should be really considered as a non-points race, and strictly for exhibition purposes. The drivers and team principals all admit it is a farce as far as true racing competition is supposed to be. It's really just about entertainment for the rich and famous.
Qualifying is the only time we see the real deal taking place on the circuit. The race should be shortened to more along the lines of a sprint race, perhaps 25 laps, to end the suffering for viewers quicker.

I think they can adjust the course slightly, which could give one or maybe even two places to pass
biggest problme, is the size of the cars, which everyone agrees, they have gottne to big and to heavy.
fix that too would help.

Senna had no problem passing at Monaco, drive like Senne problem solved 😁

To bad you missed the Spanish GP. It had a few interesting moments.. Max was being Max again..he hates that he's not winning every race any more. some good finish positions from teams that are usually the back-markers. Surprised to see Mercedes have another reliability issue. I feel bad for young Antonelli.
You need a DVR so you can record these events, and watch them later. I rarely watch them live anymore.

I stypically watch it on sky sports F-1 they don't cut into race action with commercials,
some fairly insightful commentary, also pretty good before and after race reporting.
