"Technically, no more traffic jams"
Texas transportation officials have unveiled what they’re calling the future of traffic: an eight-lane roundabout built completely around a Buc-ee’s.
The massive intersection was designed to improve traffic flow by allowing drivers to continuously circle Buc-ee’s until they either find their exit or accept that this is where they live now.
“We haven’t technically had a traffic jam because everyone is still moving,” one engineer explained. “Some have been moving in a circle for six hours, but that’s still movement.”
The Buc-ee’s in the center allows stranded motorists to refuel, grab brisket, use the restroom and emotionally prepare themselves for another lap.
One family reportedly entered Tuesday morning headed for Dallas. By Wednesday, they had passed Buc-ee’s 47 times, purchased two bags of Beaver Nuggets and somehow ended up headed toward Houston.
Officials insist the project is working exactly as designed and have already announced plans to improve traffic flow.
They’re adding two more lanes.
