Woodward Dream Cruise.......and Mustang Memories show

Ok time for some shots from the day of the actual Woodward Dream Cruise.

From past experience we know that Woodward Avenue barely moves on the Saturday, so our strategy is to sign-up and park in Mustang alley for the morning and explore the local area and the Mustangs on foot, then to move a few miles north and explore a different area and the displays and passing vehicles there. Keep in mind with over 50,000 vehicles and 1.5 million people spread across about 17 miles of Woodward Av. you will never see everything.

Enjoy!

First up are some photos from Mustang Alley, usually about 1,000 Mustangs.

Saturday evening at Pontiac............ at its northern end Woodward loops around downtown Pontiac before heading South again,

On the Saturday evening of the Dream Cruise, Pontiac turns into the Wild West, we had not been up there before, and this year we ended up going a bit by accident. We had noticed that the people of Pontiac were out in force, a lot of large family groups of all ages from toddlers to grandparents, tents, canopies, blaring music, and even full size bbqs. These people were there for the duration from early in the morning until late at night.

As we joined Woodward in Pontiac around 8pm, we noticed that the traffic was barely moving across 3 or 4 lanes of traffic, so we crawled forward, wondering why........ then we spotted a couple of people in the traffic doing burnouts...... people holding signs encouraging it....... even a little girl with one that said Do a Burnout for my birthday!

The spectators had even come prepared with large containers of water to poor on the road to “help”! And there were a lot of people obliging. Clouds of Tire smoke etc.

The road was black with rubber.

What about the police I hear you ask? Well they had blocked off the side roads and were sitting there with their lights going letting people get on with it.

I couldn’t find any videos yet from last night, but here is one from last year:
https://youtu.be/dNV1s6kmW1Y

The most bizarre thing that happened........ someone stepped out and stopped the three lanes of traffic a little way ahead of us, so that someone could do donuts in the middle of the road, they seemed pretty good at them and did at least a dozen.

Mustang Memories

Today, and you will be glad to hear this is the last event of the trip, was the Mustang Memories show at Ford World HQ, a large 1-day show the day after the Dream Cruise, usually about 1,000 Mustangs and other Fords.

Similar to 2 years ago when we were last here, we volunteered as judges. Lots of fun, you get to poke around other people’s cars, get a free t-shirt and they provide food and water!

As long as no one gets really stupid and endangers the spectators, smart enough move for the local law to look the other way and not have a discontented crowd of thousands.

Writing tickets in Pontiac during the Dream Cruise is like the proverbial shooting fish in a barrel, besides, cops are car guys too. lol

Great shots, I can see it hasn't changed much since the last time I was down for it, and this a good thing.

The rear ender was a small blight on what looks like a great trip, safe travels home.

Thanks, we first went in 1999 (the 5th one) and now have just attended the 25th, it’s definitely a fun time.
