Woodward Dream Cruise 2022

Did I mention that my wife is amazing, having just completed this vacation trip to Detroit which included about 7 days of car shows….. including the Woodward Dream Cruise, cruising on various days, a Rally Car open house, Mustang Alley, Mustang Memories show, Gilmore Car Museum and it’s Cruise in evening, and last but not least the lovely people in Angelica, NY for their Monthly Cruise In evening. And of course a quick stop to Flat Rock where our cars are built for a photo!

I know I titled this thread as the Woodward Dream Cruise, but am including various other things that were part of the trip, so it might inspire others. We covered a total of 3,859 miles (6,210km) from NB to MI and around and about.

More photos to come soon on more of the above!

On the Sunday after the Dream Cruise, there is a show called Mustang Memories run by the local Mustang club. Normally it is in the parking lots of Ford WHQ, although this year it was at AAA HQ nearby. Usually a very good turnout 600+, although less this year due to the rain early in the day. As you will see, the show is actually open to other Ford powered products as well, but it’s mainly Mustangs. So if you are going to WDC is worth planning on this for the Sunday.

We have volunteered as judges for this on three occasions now, which is open to anyone and they will train you, it is a great way to poke around everyone’s cars!!! Plus you get in free, get a T shirt and lunch. They are a great bunch.

A selection of photos from it.

Pretty amazing, especially when you go under these gigantic overpasses and hammer it.

I'm pretty sure there's a good portion of vehicles on the WDC with open headers, but police are too busy going after hooligans doing burnouts.
Another area which makes interesting driving is joining I696 in that area, which is effectively in a large trench, with high concrete walls and lots of bridges etc. Near Woodward you have slow roads joining I696 which is normally running about 80mph. So basically you join the downhill slip road into the trench and floor it. It feels a bit like a race track once you are on it, with the sounds bouncing back from the high walls and the concrete above.

One of the very special Mustangs at the Memories show was this one……. #3 of 3 Cobra pace cars used at the 1994 Indy 500, driven by Parnell Jones. Owned by a guy nicknamed as Mr Pace Car, as he owns 8 different pace car Mustangs, and he is a really nice guy. 1,296 original miles on the car. Basically it’s a prototype no vin plate, not road legal, has complete fire suppression system all the front and rear strobes required for a pace car etc. We got to judge this one and I can tell you it is immaculate.

By accident we spotted an event being held by a small company that prepares rally cars, races a Porsche 911 and sells competition parts. Went along and met Paul the owner, a Brit from Manchester who provided us with Yorkshire Tea and McVities Chocolate biscuits!! The two Audi Quattros and the Porsche 911 are his.
