Sad news at the passing of the original flying Finn, WRC Champion, Hannu Mikkola, who drove Ford Escorts for many years and was then very successful in the Audi Quattro. Some of you may remember the photos of the private Ford collection earlier in this thread where I made special mention of the Mk1 Escort FEV 1H, well Hannu was the driver. One of my all time favourite drivers, I managed to meet him once, very very very briefly and have a signed picture of one of his cars on my wall. RIP Hannu, a legend.

I remember reading an article in Car and Driver about the development of the Quattro for rally racing. After testing the Quattro Hannu Mikkola apparently said "It's still possible to go off the road in this car, but you will go further into the woods when you do than with any other car"

Oh yes, apparently it was a monster to drive and not for the faint hearted.

Wow.
That is sad.
She was a joyful and cheerful person.

Saw her on top gear many times and even an episode of Timber Kings where her and her husband had a western style log construction saloon commissioned in their German town near the Ring.
The BC log builders shipped the logs from Canada and the crew overseas to build it for them.

She took some of the log builders for ride-alongs on the Ring in her Porsche after.
Laughing snd joking and having fun.

She will be missed.
