The Cooper is back on the road finally. It now has a Cooper S 6 speed gear box and since the power steering, which is a weak point in that vintage, has had a bypass kit put in and the power steering bits have been removed. Thanks to Helimech’s brother for suppling the short throw shifter and pointing me towards the bypass kit. If I drove it a lot without power steering in tight places I’d have forearms like Popeye

It’s pretty well a street legal gocart. it doesn’t push you back into the seat like the Mustang does when you punch the go pedal but it scoots pretty well especially if you keep the revs above 3000 or so. I put a set of Bilstien shocks with Eibach springs which really keep it stuck to the road. The power steering bypass kit has made the steering very direct. There’s a stretch of road on the 14 between Nine Mile River and Milford which is twisty and is an enjoyable short run to play
