Interesting article on adding horsepower to a virtually stock 5.0. They explain what should be changed out, and why.

How long does a nitrious bottle last?
how much can you use?
What does it really give you?

I ask, because I really have no idea.

You'd only use it for short bursts, such as when drag racing, or perhaps passing a vehicle on a highway. 10 to maybe 15 seconds maximum, include purging the lines. A large bottle, (20lb), could last quite awhile depending on your jetting set up, as to how large a shot you want. A 100 hp shot, held for 10 seconds, would mean using just under a pound.
You don't hit the N02 button until your at wide open throttle, and your already starting to move along. A10 second long burst, of an extra 100 hp, would be getting crazy fast. Cut that time in half and a bottle would last twice as long.:)

As far as hurting the engine, nitrous is relatively safe. You need to set it all up correctly, mind you. You never want an engine running to lean, or to rich, if you using it. Either one can cause a bad backfire, that can mess things up.
