Cat Back Or?

Sound is very subjective as discussed before.

Just deleting cats does not change the song much, just makes it a bit louder.
No smell. ?

What changes the song is that cat delete is usually associated with a H or X mid pipe swap or even headers.
Those all change the song, along with choice of mufflers.
Long tubes increase the sound volume too.

By law, cats are required for your NB MVI.
I know, a lot of people get away without.
Keep being friemdly with that inspection station if you are… ?

Not much performance difference between no cats or high flow cats.
If investing in exhaust, might as well get high flow cats and remain legal.
And do small part for environment. ?

My 06 is example that high flow cats don’t impede performance.
4.6 L pumping out 100 hp per Litre of displacement, naturally aspirated, with high flow cats.
Same tor VooDoo engine.
100 + hp per Litre of displacement, from factory, with cats. ?

Do they smell at all?
My cats disappeared when I replaced it with an H pipe like Marc mentioned usually happens. I just did it because I wanted the pro chamber mid pipe paired with the magna flow exhaust. I had heard the sound on another car and loved it. It does smell a bit when you are at traffic lights and stuff. Not going to lie. I saved my old mid pipe in case I ever get hassled. I have it locked away in a gun safe. Lol

I’m going to go to bed smarter tonight.
Didn’t think the smell would be noticeable.
Learned something new.

Like stated above, I have cats on my cars so no first hand experience without.

Humble pie.
My apologies for using the smily face above in reference to the smell question.

I do have the mentioned experience with high flow cats on well massaged car though and remain a firm believer in them.

Haha. Yeah the smell is noticeable on super warm days I find. Wife has never complained about it so it is not that bad in my opinion. But it is there. High flow cats would definitely be the answer if you are at all concerned.
I put on 17/8 kook long tubes with green cats and H pipe. Haven’t had the opportunity to try them out or hear them but I was told that was the way to go for my set up

Yes they did a lot of testing to conclude Kooks was ahead of others with the Coyote.
Joe told me all about it when I went with my 15 in 2019.
Those gold old pre Covid days.

And that Roush H pipe is going to give you a deep and throaty sound.

I’m a fan of H pipes. ?

funny I like the X pipe,
little more direct exhaust,
some argue 1-2 HP more ( I am not convinced )

Each to thier own

Yah.
The H pipes always have straight back pipes with the H in there.

Some X pipes have pretty sharp bends in them to make up the X.
You’d think those bends slow the flow a bit
Maybe?
But other X pipes have less sharp bends, probably flowing smoother.

I’m not convinced there’s advantage either.
I read some articles before from retired Ford Mustang engineer that said X pipes don’t have advantage.
That biggest difference is sound.
