1987 Mustang LX/5.0 Hatchback

Thanks Fred!

Did some more work to it today.

What I started with:

Driver side headlight removed:

New factory style headlight on the driver side with the old one on the passenger side:

Both side completed: (the driver side was later taken apart to fix the ill-fitting headlight seal)

The car had a stumble between 2500 and 3200 RPM since I bought it. The previous owner said it did it before he installed the new engine a few years back. I played with the C&L MAF (an identical one gave me headaches on my red car). For some reason, I decided to take out my ECM and found this sticker on it:

For those who remember, SAS Dyno used to be in Salisbury, NB. They're well (?) remembered for blowing up a lot of engine.

Digging up further, I found this installed in the ECM:

The car runs so much better since I removed it. Idle quality is just as good and no more stumble.

Took this thing out for a spin in Mexico yesterday. Last time it was driven was by my dad during the Atlantic Nationals cruise we had. Last time I drove it was the day I installed the new headlights, at the end of June so I had to remove spider webs from the steering wheel, seriously! Gotta say it's a fun car to play with...

A guy showed up with cash to buy it this morning, had to tell him the car is not for sale anymore... :FordSmile

Yup it's off. Trying to get some parts together to bring it in the first direction I was heading when I bought it - a somewhat period correct build.

I've got a guy who's supposed to sell be a factory air box assembly for it this weekend.

OK cool. Remember Tony is interested in your hood. He was disappointed when I had told him you were selling the car.

Facebook 'Memories' put something interesting in my news feed today, straight from 2009:

Yep, that was my first summer with the red one! And obviously the black one wasn't mine yet.

Done some work over the weekend. Finally figured out the stumbling/missfire: the 'new' plugs installed by the PO were not gapped properly. Car runs like mad now.

Re-installed the stock air box with the silencer removed. Now I need to get my C&L maf an airbox calibration tube. It is currently calibrated for an open conical filter, so it runs a bit rich and the idle surge on start up.

And finally, I've found a set of ground effect that will get painted and installed next spring. That should be quite the facelift.

Did some work to the interior last week:

Removed the old steering:

New-to-me steering installed (Couldn't find a non-cruise control one):

Next step was taking the gauge cluster surround off:

1987-correct black gauge cluster surround in place (the red one was from a 91 or 92):

And then I detailed the car:

Took the car on a little road trip. Left Moncton for Cavendish, then went down to Charlottetown. Later that night we caught the ferry to Nova Scotia and went to my place in St. Peter's. The next morning we left St. Peter's for the Cabot Trail toward Highway 19. Came back down Highway 105, had supper in Baddeck, then back to St. Peter's. Total trip was a little over 1500 kms.

It's a nice drive. It kinda sucked because they were repaving long stretches of it in preparation for the 150th celebration next year.
