The owner Rex Meyers claimed that back when he bought it, the VIN had been changed and not a word was mentioned about it having some racing history involving Alan Mann racing. Authenticity, and racing pedigree, for cars like this are all important when it comes to value. There is no doubt, Alan Mann Racing did run a car that looked like this, but is this actually the same car?. He mentions several NOS parts used on the car. Could it just be a clone?
Part of the reason I wonder, is there was a story about a decade ago, about a Shelby Cobra, where back in the 1960's the car had been completely destroyed in a race, other than a few parts of the frame that were salvaged by a guy. Many years passed, when out of the blue a Cobra appeared on the market, baring the same VIN as the destroyed car. Of course Cobra's were now fetching huge dollars. The story about the car evolved, and claims were made that the seller had basically claimed the VIN from the destroyed car, because he used a small portion of the salvaged frame, and built a new car around it with NOS and era correct parts, and a replica aluminum body.
