I love hockey and have for years. Been watching and playing since I was a kid.
World Jr's tournament is a Christmas Tradition. Still pure game, playing for the love of the game
instead of money, Best Kids in the world. For those who watch will see some future star.

5 teams have legit chance at Gold, Sweden, USA, Russia, Finland and of course Canada.
No clear favourite, makes for great competition and great games.

Canada won their first game 4-2
Russia lost to the Cze, not unusual for them, slow starters.
US beat Denmark, 9-0 favourites to win it all again.
Sweden beat Blr 6-1

Canada faces Slovacs tonight.

Should be a bell weather game this week when US meets Can. Hope Canada wins, it seems unless we win gold its a failure for us.

it shouldn't be, but it is. When your a leading hockey nation,
it is what it is. World hockey is much more level than it used to be.
Russia is a good example, they have even harder time winning gold these days.

Canada wins 6-0 in one they should have won.
Big test Friday, playing the USA team outdoors.
Also very cold.

Yes they needed to win that one for sure.

As for the outdoor game I do not agree with it. A tournament as important as the world juniors should not have an outdoor game thrown in there. Not fair to the the 2 teams that need to be the ones playing it. To many variables that the kids have not been faced with.

Not a good decision by the organizers.

I agree, as a demonstration or exhibition game, fine.
Even in NHL, I don't like them, cool to watch I am sure.
But hard enough to win, without throwing in unknown conditions.

Yeah exactly. You want to do it in a previous tournament game to build up to it. OK. Problem is now the kids have to contend with wind chills and figuring out what to wear under their hockey gear. Which will add lack of movement for sure. Do not screw around with a great tournament. Lol

Slovakia upsets USA 3-2, I don't think anyone seen that coming.
Fins beat Denmark, 4-1
Russia beats SUI 5-2
Sweden over CZE 3-1

So far not as many runaway games as in the past.

Not so sure the outdoor game is a new fit in this tournament format. I would venture it would be an exciting game in the arena. 40,000 fans swelling $15 beers in the cold look like they're having the time of their lives!

Great spectacle but not a great game. Ice and snow made it brutal.
For Canada, guy who got real stupid penalty should sit.
US was not in game the goal gave them the edge rest of the way.
Actually he is lucky he only got 2 minutes.

Missed the 3rd and OT. Was not impressed watching a snowstorm and hockey game on TV. Sure they are happy about the ticket sales. But the game was not the same at all from what I saw. Everyone seemed to be uneasy. Heard it was a stupid penalty. Blew a 2 goal lead. What is it with 2 goal leads and the US?

True to a certain degree, most are in 19-20 and will be signing million dollar deals within next year or two.
They are young men.

I'm not a CFL fan by any stretch but the Grey Cup game in the snow was better to watch than the Can- US game by far. Hope this is a one & done notion for world juniors.

Canada beat the Danes as expected and take first in the group.
get couple days off before elimination rounds begin.

Would be a far better tournament is the balance of talent was closer. There is a hype around tournaments such as this than makes it a great live event to take in that doesn't get translated to the TV experience.

your right, but it is closer than it was 10 years ago.
Some of the games are quite entertaining.
I watched several no tradition teams and they are greatly
improved. If the big teams don't pay attention, they can lose.
As we have seen on occasion and many scores are closer also.

Interesting comments from the Swiss coach... anything can happen in the quarterfinal round . A hot goalie, freak bounce of the puck or over zealous officials can influence these games. Go Canada!!????
