Known as Deer's Leap.
A rise in the middle of the straightaway at Westwood Racing Circuit caused more than one fast car to become airborne, and almost every driver could feel their car getting a bit light as it crested the hill. This rise also prevented drivers from seeing further along the track till they reached the crest of the hill.
Since the track opened in 1959 there had been several incidents with various animals, including a black bear, being spotted on, or dangerously close to the edge of the track. Nothing really serious had happened, but cars were getting faster, and after two tragic fatal crashes (with deer) in the early 1980's, deer caution lights were installed at the top of Deer’s Leap. They would be turned on remotely by track marshals if any animals were spotted in the area. Drivers had to act on them the same as double yellow flags being waved. You can see the warning lights on a pole in this photo.
