Photo editing / logo makers

Can anyone recommend free software for editing photos, making logos, this sort of thing?
I have no idea how this stuff works, don't make many things.
working on project for work so looking for some advice.
Not something I use often, so really don't wish to pay for it ( if thats even possible)
Easy to use, being able to add my own photos, text and editing.

I would like to be able to mess with photos, but also make logos, write text, etc.
If I had to pay, thats fine, as long as its reasonable, as I likely won't use it a lot.
