Mustangs & Family...what's your story?

My passion has always been buried and lived vicariously through others. After raising 2 daughters and seeing them through university degrees and onto their careers, I felt it was my time.
Bought my 2013 in April 2016 basically sight unseen....saw pics posted by Lexus of St. John while on a work trip to Ottawa, with a plan to continue on to Toronto to buy an M-B SL550. Long story short, the broker I was working with had 3 lined up to view, mechanicals had been done and paid for on all 3. The night before finishing up in Ottawa and flying to Toronto, I got a call that all 3 had been sold.
PO'ed and expecting to have a fun ride back from Toronto, I got online early the next day and found the 2013 GT vert that was traded in by first owners. Called right at opening, spoke to sales manager who said it wasn't going to last long. Ended up putting a significant deposit down and a week later, picked it up. Paperwork done before sitting in the driver's seat and firing it up. Not a single regret since!
Passing along the passion to granddaughters now. Their dad is a car guy, as well. Chevy heart, but is seeing the Mustang light! Even picked up a 65 coupe after parting with a 68 Beaumont...
Kids love the rear seat with the top down, stereo cranked and getting thrown back in their seats!
By the smiles of the grandkids, I think there's a next generation to the Mustang family!

I had heard this story before but an awesome one just the same. Glad the Mustang gods steered you to the correct side. These cars and the people are way more fun then you could have ever had with the Benz family. You have a nice looking ride.
My story with cars started at a young age. I have always loved cars and tinkering on anything with a motor. The Mustang has always been at the forefront on the cars I loved.
I started out on motorcycles and absolutely loved them. I had my bike licence before my car licence. In our early married life my wife and I would go out all the time by ourselves or with groups of friends and we really enjoyed it. One evening we were going down Main Street in Moncton and we were cut off by drunk driver and to this dayI do not understand how I was able to keep the bike upright enough to avoid the car and not slamming into the side of it. My pegs scraped the pave and that was it. He parked his car and locked the door. He rolled his window down just a bit but he would not come out of the car. He was sitting there in his tuxedo and I could smell the booze from the car. I am not a violent man but I so wanted him to come out and he wouldn't. Pissed off we got on the bike and headed home cancelling our plans. My wife would never get on again and feared for me whenever I went. I sold the bike not long after as our passion that we had enjoyed together had passed.
Fast forward to 2001 my cousin had come down from the US and she had rented À 2001 GT Convertible I drove it around with her for a complete afternoon. I fell in love immediately. I was hooked and realized that the convertible was the closest thing I could ever get to a motorcycle and my wife would more then likely like it as well.
Fast forward to 2007 we had a young family and we were building some new homes, living in them for a couple years and then selling them and rebuilding. We had just sold out 3rd home and we're in the process of building another one when I was driving down Main street and saw a 2001 Black Mustang GT sitting at a used car dealership called flagship. I pulled in and took a closer look. Exactly the car I wanted. I talked to the sales guy and he said they had just gotten it in and that the owner had traded it on a vet. They had not even had a chance to detail it yet. He gave me a price. I let him know I would be back. I convinced my wife to come take a look as the kids were with their grandparents. We took it out for a cruise and I knew she was hooked. We made the deal when we got back and the rest is history.
We were now able to enjoy the fresh air again like the bike, go out on Sunday cruises and also meet up with great like minded Mustangers. Our kids were just in toddler seats at the time and they enjoyed it as well. We never regretted that decision. The memories over the years are irreplaceable.
I have made lots of changes to it over the years. We still enjoy ever chance we get.

My passion for performance cars goes back to a very young age, my Dad told me when I was 2,3 years old and out riding in the car with him I would get exited and point at Corvettes, Mustangs and I started reading car magazines when I was 10. I also waited till our 2 boys were grown and saw my BULLITT at Centennial Motors on Main Street in Shediac in the Spring of 2011. At the Time I was planning on buying an 05 or newer Mustang GT Coupe in a couple Of years and had set a budget of 25 thousand. I had read test drive reviews in Hot Rod and Car and Driver Magazine back in 01, and both published glowing reviews. When I saw True Blue BULLITT 02058, I fell in Love. I thought about it for a day or two, then on a Sunday afternoon drive with my better half I drove into the lot, stopped in front of the BULLITT and said to my Wife, “ remember we discussed buying a Mustang in a few years for no more than $25;000 ?, we’ll I can get this one for $10,900.” Her Immediate response was “ well you should buy that one then” I gave Paul the owner a $2,500 deposit the next day and picked it up with the balance on hand later that week.

Great stories all ?, and Aaron, we are all glad you went with the Mustang and not the Benz. What you have spent on Mods is Peanuts compared to what the operating costs of that Mercedes would have been.

Cars have been part of my life in a way or another since, well, the beginning. My dad was the Service Department Manager at Hatheway Ford in Tracadie for a very long run, then he switched for a couple of years to managing a body shop in Miramichi for a couple of years, to finishing his career as the body shop manager of McGraw & Frères ltd/Toner GM in Tracadie as well.
Just before i was born, he bought a brand new 1989 Ford Probe for my mom as a daily, which was to be better than the mustang they were dailying up to then (yeah... more on that later). On his end, he's been in everything from Aerostar, escort, tempo, ranger, f150, escort ZX2, you name it. Probably had it at one point in the 90's lol. Switched to GM, had a company supplied Olds Alero for a while, then switched to a Malibu which he actually replaced with a 2018 Subaru Outback just Recently. You see, Elide knows my father very well. He has been a car guy all his life, but not AT ALL into modifying and prepping the cars as I am, but wall all about waxing and detailing back in his days. I guess having me he didn't have much time after LOL. BUT!! one big thing he was always against: Me HAVING A SPORTS CAR. Don't ask me why, always had, until more recently. So when I got some of the cars below, he wasn't a happy camper. When i was speaking of trading the focus for a mustang initially (more on that later), he was all against it. Useless to have a sports car, what would i do in the winter (winter beater, duh!
), etc. etc. I responded back with: Dad, how many Mustangs did YOU own?? Oh yeah, I think the count is SIX!!! That's where he stopped arguing All of his were foxbodies, which I've never seen any of except in pictures (the last one, wine red in color).
On my end, well I've always been into sports cars. I am one of those who grew up with The Fast and The Furious. I mean, from the very first movie. Oh does this movie take a big place in my memories. Not what you can call the best movie ever, but good for a car guy I guess . One of my best movies of all time? Movie that never gets a really good critique.... Gone in 60 Seconds (1997). Oh do I ever Love Eleanor!!
My own story. I was extremely happy when my god mother would give me my first car: 2000 Ford Escort ZX2. Beautiful Toreador Red. God did I ever loved this car. Was a good alternative to the sea for Honda Civics i was constantly against at high school and University. Sadly, this sorry ass facebook picture is pretty much the only one I have from this car.
During my 3rd year of University, though it was the time to upgrade to something a little more, new, a little less prone to parts install. Mind you, when I sold my Escort, it had 294 000KMs on it (!!!) So, bought in 2010, here came the 2006 Mazda3 Sport. First manual car for me. I was hooked 100%. couldn't be happier with the car at the time, UNTIL it started to rust just looking at it AND consume oil like a drunken sailor on short leave. Mazda3 from that era with the 2.3L and the standard tranny were prone to this. Lucky me only found it after the fact lol.
Nonetheless, this was the first car that actually starter modding a little more then just muffler and intake (ZX2). This one got outfitted with the Mazdaspeed OEM exhaust (yup, oem turbo model exhaust gave the N/A a crazing nice sound), Short Ram Intake, Mazdaspeed3 replica wing (viva ebay), Gunmetal wheels and full coilover suspension and HID's.
This car served me well, but at the end for university go tired of the oil consumption way too much, so kinda upgraded. Here comes the 2013 Ford Focus ST. A lot of you do actually know me starting from this era. I was on the trip to St-Martin with this car, where I've met and encountered most of you guys for the first time. Car was stock at the time, with a Cobb Tuning Basemap. Between 2013 and 2017, i've installed a good chunk of things on this car, pretty much nothing on the aesthetic/suspension this time and all in the power/performance. That car was fitter with: Levels performance intercooler, TR3 performance 3'' downpipe, 3'' Roush Catback Exhaust, Boomba Racing BOV (Pshhhhh), Boomba Racing Stage 2 rear motor mount, Short shifter plate, custom heavy weight shift knob, and a custom tune by Stratified Automotive. When i sold (well... traded) this car, it was pushing a healthy 252WHP and 329Ft-pound torque (2600RPM)! Little pocket rocket honestly.
It was fun, it was nice, BUT it was obnoxiously loud AND, thanks to some of you guys, the mustang craze was creeping on me little by little.
Then one late August 2017, I had a Brillant Idea. What if, instead of selling the Focus (nobody wanted it for a fair price, since probably everyone was scared with the mods that were present on the car), What if I wouldn't just.... trade it?? And so I did. Dropped a deposit on a car I had never seen but in pictures, drove to Montreal on vacation with my Focus, Came back with the Mustang. 2007 Mustang GT/CS with 108 000kms on the ODO when i picked her up. One big condition of my girlfriend. Had to be a convertible. So that's what i picked, and absolutely do NOT regret it!! Here's some before and after, from the very start of ownership, to a little more recently.
Would not change this a bit. Loving every minute of being part of the MaritimeMustang community and having met all of you. Here's to a lot more years!!

Great story Max. My youngest Son’s first car was a 99 Escort ZX2 Sport with the 130 HP engine and 15 inch Rally Wheels it also had a a Factory Sunroof. I went 50/50 on it with him when we bought it for $2,000 in 2009. Bought it from a friend it had 200,000 kilometers. I enjoyed driving it occasionally as it was a good little car.
