Car Painting

Getting good work without getting screwed around in these parts
is becoming a bigger challenge that is it should be.

I was told Enfield autobody is good, guess name is now FixAuto
not sure if same ownership, but if so the do good work.

I was going to start a thread about auto body shops, but trying to figure out
how to be tactful considering the Sh#t and abuse I have taken over the last month.

So my recent nightmare with autobody shops.
I have dealt with overall auto for years,
they do custom work and normal work like most shops.

I arrange for them to do my fox body which is in two parts.
first which is finish weld shop repairs, paint interior, truck, bottom of car,
engine bay and re-do primered areas to be safe. Got date, price all was good.

Weld shop finishes and I call, he then tells me 4-6 weeks, I already had spot booked,
he tells me to F-off and its the way it goes do what ever the F, I want.
So I say nothing and end call, before I say something I will regret.

I call JC Auto works, known Mustang guy does good work. ( David Dodge)
I did not tell him who I am, or ask for anything special,
I asked how far booking out, he tells me 4 weeks,
I say ok, like to book in and proceed to tell him what I want, same as above,
outer paint to be done next spring, he proceeds to tell me hes not interested,
I say I am not looking for anything special, just some body work and paint,
he then tells me to F- off also, hes busy and doesn't need my work.

So I am a little shocked that this is how people treat their customers on the phone
and first thought is, if any issues you are so screwed and I will not say anything good
or recommend anyone to these shops in the future. I was not asking for discount or car show
quality paint, just decent work. Sad they think they are that special they can treat folks this way.

After above experince, I went looking for new paint guy, starting calling my connections
Gerry hooked up with a maybe, mor ein a bit.

Another guy I know said Kaisers in Sackville do great work, fair prices, I know the custom
guys, can't afford them, were talk 25-30k paint jobs. I end up with 4 numbers
Valled Gerrys guy first, he says no, only does his own stuff now, but recommends
another guy, ironically 5 minutes from me, After hours autobody ( i have heard of)
So I go see him and hes really good guy, got me booked in, guess I will see
what kind of work he does. COnsidering the guy who recommended does incredible work
I usspect this guy should eb good.

Disclaimer, for Fox I am looking for nice paint job, but don't want show quality
too much money and most won't drive after this, I plan on driving, just need good work.
We will see.

I think part of issue with decent or better mainstream body shops is they get more than enough work with insurance jobs.
Guaranteed steady income with fairly easy work. Change out a lot of parts, including panels so little prep, repair or fab work.

It makes them comfortable, not to say lazy.
So they are not interested in off the menu work.

yes I agree, but my thoughts are don't tell folks to f-off
and don't make commitments you have no plans of keeping.
